October 27, 2014

Thank you for your all your emails! I am completely emerged in the work. All I look forward to is to who we are teaching next and which person we should talk to. We found 4 new investigators this week :). We now have seven in total. And we are hoping to get one of our investigators’ whole family involved.

Anyways, yup, I leave to Argentina on Monday, !!!!! WHOOO HOO!! I'm so pumped. But also very sad. I have grown to love all my investigators and people here. It's so sad that I wont be able to see them again. But they want to stay in contact with me, so that's cool! This week we had a ward Halloween party! It was so great! They had a Chili cook off. And Hermana Vegas was by far the spiciest by far! Wow, my mouth still is burning from it, haha. This ward knows how to throw a Halloween party!!! They took it to another level. So much food! They had a spook alley that was actually pretty intense! They had a professional theme park designer design it. It was amazing. The ward had us do the ‘trunk or treat’. We decorated our car with random things and blasted Mormon Tabernacle Choir. We had each kid grab a Spanish pass-along card before the got candy. It was great :)

Our week is booked with lessons with investigators. One of our newest investigators just got out of jail. And she really want's to turn her life around. She is 21 and has such a beautiful and kind six-year old daughter. We are teaching her today and will help her come to our addiction recovery program.

They have a gym here and we go every day 6:30 am. I have lost 15 pounds so far and have been getting huge, haha!

A Chilean from Vina del mar I met at Office Max.

Cute kid wanted me to take a picture of him with a jesus pass along card

P-day!

It's been a tough week to be honest. But I had a fun time going on exchanges with Elder Marroquin. During our exchanges we found two new investigators in a day :)! He is 16, very understanding and sweet. Another is a lady. We were guided to her by the Spirit and found her just standing on the sidewalk. She is from Guatemala and is 74 years old. We taught her the first lesson and she loved it. She also committed to baptism :). I will update more on her next week.

Isn't the movie “Meet the Mormons” just amazing! I saw it with the whole mission before it came out! Did you know that it got rated in the Top 100 documentaries of all time?! And it has been rated one of the top grossing movies in the nation! Wow! We are allowed to use this movie as a missionary tool as well. But only with members and not when contacting. We encourage the members to invite their friends to see it and share the movie! :)

Here is a picture of Elder Marroquin and I.
This is after a LONG day of work and we just kicked back and enjoyed some snacks.

Thank you for praying that we would find a new investigator. Because guess what, this week we got three new investigators!! We are going teach one of them tonight :) I'm so excited. All is well over here. I love it here! And I love all the people I meet. I'm so blessed to be out here. I have learned a lot here this week.

The other day I went on an exchange with another Elder (Elder Bagley) and we drove down to a city called Pacoima. It is such a cool area!! Pure Latinos there! Everyone was out on the streets having their fiestas, cooking food and such. Elder Bagley and I had a scheduled dinner but they ended up not being able to feed us. So, Elder Bagley just went up to to random Latinos and simply complimented the smell of the food. They appreciated it and offered us food! We ate sooooo much!!!! Haha, I love how expressive and giving they are here. It was great.

We stopped by one of his recent converts’ house. The boy is only 9 years old!  He is such an energetic wild boy! But he understands the gospel so well. I found out that he is the only one in his family who had been taking lessons! This amazed me. This boy is so innocent. It touched me that he desired to have the gospel. He always tries to come to church but has no one that will take him. We, as missionaries can't give him rides. I wish we could. He was baptized only a few months ago. He loves God, Jesus Christ, the scriptures and Joseph Smith so much. I wish I was like him when I was nine years old.

Well, that was just a very little update on what's been happening! I love you very much and wish the best for you.

I'm sorry that I don't have many stories to tell. It's just that we are having a hard time finding a new investigator. Especially in an area that is new. We go out everyday and proselyte for hours and hours. Our area is a bit more wealthy and the people just don't seem to have time to listen to us. But other than that I love it here! Please pray that we may be able to have missionary opportunities. Pray that we may be guided by the spirit. We have met someone named who seems to be having a big interest in the church. We can't teach her until we have a member that can be there with us. We need to have someone at least 16 years old who is male to be present during the lessons. Thank you for everything!

I just got a haircut today! I told the barber (Armando) to make my sides go to point - it's usually how I get my haircut. But I guess he took that way too literally and now I look a true Mexican soccer player, hahah.
