Okay, this week we
experienced sooo many miracles.... We found a family of 30 people, set more
baptismal dates, found seven new investigators. I will only write about one of these miracles in specific.
So, this week we decided to
explore more of our area and find where our boundaries are. On Wednesday we
took a bus to as far as it could take us. We basically got off in the middle of
nowhere and walked down the first street we saw. We walked this street for about
30 minutes and then turned into another street that had a neighborhood under
construction. It was dead and no one was around. We walked down this
dirt road which ended in a dead-end with a barbwire fence. We decided to
continue our adventure and crossed over the fence and just kept walking. We were
walking through pure countryside (campo) for about 40 minutes. There we no one
in sight, but for some reason we still continued.
Eventually, we noticed a
house far off in the distance and started walking towards the house. Then, two German Shepherd dogs noticed us and started approaching us. We decided to turn away
and get out of there, fearing the dogs would kill us! At that moment, we heard some
people at the house shouting and telling us to come back. I was worried that
they would be mad at us for having trespassed on their property, or something like
that. Upon arrival at the house we saw five, or so, people sitting around an outside table. They pulled out chairs, served us cold glasses of water, and
invited us to sit down with them.
The first thing they told
us was that they were going through a very hard time. I was a little confused,
but they explained that they had a brother in the hospital who was dying, and that they were just praying to God that He would send someone to help them in their
trial. Just after they finished praying, they heard their dogs barking and they
saw us walking in the distance. Whoa! When they told us that, we were mind-blown!
We then realized that our unusual excursion had been happening for a reason.
The mother of this household told us that she was actually a member of the LDS Church, but had been inactive
for a very long time. Two of her daughters were members as well. The other
people at the house we not members of the Church. We taught the Plan of Salvation
to them and then gave copies of the Book of Mormon out to those that weren’t
members. We gave one to a lady that was visiting with them. As she opened up the scriptures, she started
to cry: It had opened up somewhere in 1st Nephi, and pressed between the pages was
a gorgeous purple flower. She explained that this
type of flower had a huge significance to her, because it was her mother’s favorite
flower. She said that the first thing she was going to do when she gets home, was to
invite the LDS missionaries over. I know that she will be baptized.
We also found out that they
have an 18-year-old son living with them at the house. He was so kind and so
attentive. We taught him the 1st lesson and set a baptism date for him! :)
This family told us that our visit was a clear sign from God that they have to
return to activity in the Church. They will be coming to our ward from now on :). Wow, what a miracle :)! It is so amazing how God works.
Here are pictures of how we
found them:
